IS SOCIAL MEDIA A SINKHOLE FOR REALTORS? OF COURSE IT IS...

Can I get an 'Amen'??

Via Ken Tracy Realtor Naperville Illinois Real Estate (Keller Williams Naperville):

facebook                ActiveRain real estate agent network

I just read yet another featured post on Active Rain questioning if social media was a sinkhole for most Realtors...

Of course it is!

This is such a tiring debate.

Social media IS a "sinkhole" for most Realtors.

But so are:

Most things we try don't work.  At first.  That is why 70% of agents quit in the first year...

I have hosted many open houses with little or no visitors...

Ken's Open House

But I still host open houses...

Real estate sales is hard.  Social media is hard too.

Is social media a sinkhole for most Realtors?  Of course it is...

But it is still my most valuable tool.

Ken

AMEN!

Most of our leads come via internet, supported by Active Rain blogs and pay per click.

Thank you Clint.  THANK YOU!  I read that featured post and I can see both sides of it, but I know that being a new Realtor this year that social media has been my #1 way of connecting with and meeting new clients.  Nothing beats face to face but sometimes to get that face to face you have to be where your clients are...  ONLINE!  Okay, you got me fired up, time for me to blog about it.

Amy -- Preach on, Sister!

Ed and Celia -- I deal all day long in internet leads...I understand that power. ;-)

Jared and Amanda -- "...to get that face to face you have to be where your clients are... ONLINE!" I dont think i need to add anything to that. ;-)

The Internet itself is a sink hole if you let it be. Consider how long folks can spend watching videos, shopping, and more.

Ken -- I told you before I thought this was a great post. Very pleased it got the attention that it did.

Social Media, Sinkholes and Gack what a mix of metaphors. And your point is? Ok I will take a guess at the point. Realtors put time and effort into unsolicited commentary (Social Media) which disappears without a trace (Sinkhole) except on rare occasion some gooey slimy illegal or otherwise limited use stuff (Gack) is the reward. OK I get it. Amen.  Unless of course the realtor receives some pleasure expressing one's self as I have just done.

Clint - At this point I don't think either camp is going to change the other one's mind, but I like you am tired of hearing the debate regurgitated.

William -- my forum is open to all who feel the need to post. :-) Thanks!

Jason -- Yeah, its starting to feel like the dead horse thing...

Posted by Clint Miller (Real Estate Client Referrals, LLC (RECR)) 7 months ago

Jason, you are most likely right. But I did not think of it as opposing  camps. I would think if you do not support Social Media then stay away and let those who find favor with it go at it.

Clint, your response was my point. If indeed one is tired of hearing the debate regurgitated as beating on a dead horse then for god's sake stop regurgitating and beating.

I want social media to work because I enjoy it!

Hey Clint, so true, most things don't work at first including Social Media.  The all take Stick-to-it-iveness, with persistence most things will work in or business.  Anyone looking for a Magic bullet in sales is prove to failure, so when it comes to Socail Media go Deep and Wide and stick with it .

Pam -- You and I both! :-)

Bill -- I completely agree.

I met you through social media, therefore all the time has paid off.  :-)

Well said Clint! I'd engage in blogging and social media when I'm AT an open house - then at least I feel productive!

Clint - I believe it's like anything else, you have to put in time and effort.  If you don't, you won't get any results.  If you pound the pavement/keyboard, I believe it will benefit you in the long run.  But, you have to be doing things the right way.

Posted by Troy Erickson - Your Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek Realtor (Terra Solis Realty, LLC) 7 months ago

Christianne -- Now THAT is a good idea!

Troy -- Exactly. It takes time to get good at it and even more time to see a reward from it.

" If you don't quit you CAN NOT FAIL "

An auctioneer gave me this advice...when I stated I was getting

alot of resistance to selling via Auction on east coast.  He was right it...

is the biggest drawing card for me now.

Ed -- sound advice, my friend.
