"Opportunity" Depends On Who's Hands It's In...

Thats right...OPPORTUNITY as we define the word is not a universal application.  It is only an opportunity if the person that recieves the opportunity actually does something with it.  And, here is what I mean...Not everyone can take advantage of the same opportunities.  Some see opportunities as an insurmountable obsticle.  Others, a challenge that can be overcome.  Some see them as a once-in-a-lifetime shot.  Others, hard work.  Some see it as the way to get what they want.  Others, a waste of time.

Let me give you some examples that were revieled to me in an email I recieved the other day...

  • A basketball in my hands is worth about $19. A basketball in Michael Jordan's hands is worth about $33 million.
  • A baseball in my hands is worth about $6. A baseball in Mark McGuire's hands is worth $19 million.
  • A tennis racket is useless in my hands. A tennis racket in Venus Williams' hands is a championship.
  • A golf club in my hands is but a club. A golf club in Tiger Woods' hands created an icon.
  • A rod in my hands will keep away a wild animal. A rod in Moses' hands parted a mighty sea.
  • A sling shot in my hands is a kid's toy. A sling shot in David's hand was a mighty weapon.
  • Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse. Nails in Jesus Christ's hands produced salvation for the entire world.

Everyone is given the opportunity every day to make the right choices and to achieve great things.  You are given a bank of time each day...86,400 seconds to be exact.  So, ask yourself...what are you doing with your time that will allow you to take advantage of the opportunities given to you.  Remember, what you are doing right now...you are trading your time for it.  And you cant get that back.  So, trade wisely.  You have the opportunity to do great things...It's worth your time.

The operative word is "do", just like "faith without works."  I agree, thanks for blogging and sharing.  Lu

Clint,

Nice post and I agree with you.  This kinda reminds me of recent college graduates, now that you have your degree what are you going to do with it?

Lu -- Agreed!  And stop using the word 'try'.  Much like Yoda once said..."Do.  Or do not.  There is no 'try'."  Doing your best and failing is not trying.  It is doing your best.  There is a difference.  Thanks for the comment!!!

Wayne -- True. True. I actually had a professor ask me that when I graduated...struck me as odd back then. Now, not so much.  Thanks!

So true Clint! I know my 'opportunity' is now. And like Lu said I am doing.

Tara -- Good for you!  You go girl!  And, while you are doing...do something for someone else.  Even simple things like buying the latte for the person behind you in the drive-thru at Starbucks can cause a chain reaction of kindness that spans far outside of your circle.

Clint I remember hearing that on the news and it went on for over an hour or something. Of course, I have been 'saving' money by not going to drive thrus like that. I advise people they can save at least $100 a month, so I must follow my own advice. 8-)

Tara -- It was something like 3 hours in total.  But, you have an excellent point!  I gave up caffiene entirely...I gained about $150 a month.  And giving up smoking saved me far more than that!!  Between those two vices, I was able to get a new car (my other vice)  :-)

Clint if you gave up caffeine and nicotine you deserved a new car!! Congratulation on the self discipline. I know neither was easy.

Tara -- Yeah, I dont remember any of the withdrawls from the caffiene.  I was on Loritabs due to a 7mm kidney stone.  Not fun...not gonna do that again.  The smoking I just quit cold turkey.  Woke up one day and said I was done.  Never had one since.  Besides, I have two little boys that need a daddy.  :-)
